corporations as regards their human rights responsibilities
The Amnesty Group 133 Business Action Team (B.A.T.) is a group
of local passionate and dedicated volunteer activists (people just like you!)
working on business, environment and human rights issues.

Most recently Amnesty 133 B.A.T. has worked to support the
indigenous peoples of the Narmada valley in India who are being callously
uprooted and displaced to make way for a massive dam project, and in solidarity
with the long-suffering victims of the Bhopal gas disaster of 1984, in their
struggle for justice.

you to join us on a new campaign to hold corporations accountable for Human
Rights abuses!
We are looking for concerned and
inspired citizens to join us for a meeting of the Amnesty 133 Business Action
Team on July 17 th , 2006.
We will be reviewing the campaigns that Amnesty International is
currently focused on, and selecting one as our next campaign here at Group 133
B.A.T.
Here is a brief listing of the possibilities:
Internet censorship in China
In China, US corporations such as Yahoo! (YHOO), Microsoft (MSFT), and Google (GOOG)
are contributing to human rights violations, directly or indirectly.
Chevron Corporation in the Niger Delta
Ten years after the internationally condemned executions of the “Ogoni 9,”
including Ken Saro-Wiwa, the legacy of human rights violations in the Niger
Delta continues.
Chevron Corporation in the Amazon
Chevron's drilling practices in the Ecuadorian Amazon have left a legacy of
pollution and health problems in the indigenous communities and the people in
the area.
Oil impunity in Nigeria
The failure of the Nigerian government to rigorously enforce its obligations to
protect human rights is fuelling violations of civil and political as well as
economic, social and cultural rights in the process of the oil exploration and
production in the Niger Delta. SHELL Petroleum Development Corporation (SPDC) is
impacting the community of Rukpokwu, Rivers State.
Corporate accountability in the "war on terror"
U.S. companies may be fueling human rights violations and operating in a
virtually rules-free zone in the "war on terror". More than 25 U.S. aviation
companies have been linked to "renditions", the U.S. government's policy of
transferring people secretly and illegally to countries known to practice
torture, including
Richmor Aviation .
Private military
contractors (PMCs), many with multi-million dollar government
contracts, have been accused of engaging in sexual abuse and torture, and
implicated in hundreds of shootings at Iraqi civilians.
Call For Corporate Accountability In Iraq
The Titan Corporation and CACI International (CAI), Inc. have performed services
contracts with the U.S. military that have led to public allegations of
complicity in abuses against detainees by some of their employees.
Environmentalists Under Fire
Chad-Cameroon
An oil pipe line project threatens local communities and fragile ecosystems.
Ecuador
Indigenous communities and activists struggle to protect the Amazon from oil
interests.
Oil and mining projects threaten communities in Aceh and Papua.
Mexico
Activists fear for their lives as the death of a human rights lawyer goes
unsolved.
