THIS IS OUR CALL TO ACTION

by: Creative Children
1997 Sing & Learn Music

What can one person do?
START A MOVEMENT

I'm too busy
WE CHOOSE TO HELP THE WORLD

I'll do it tomorrow
THE TIME IS NOW

This is our call to action
We are people of hope
We are the hope for the children of tomorrow
Their hope lives in us
This can be your call to action too

-SONG-

There comes a time
When we must take a stand
We're going to right this wrong
Now is the time
When we come hand in hand
Please join us in our song.

-CHORUS-

This is our call to action
We're standing with one voice
This is our call to action
We can make the choice
To be a call to action
We'll make the dream come true
This can be your call to action too.

ABOUT THE LIVELY ARTS

Regis College's Lively Arts Program offers excellence in Arts Education for young people;e in a state of the art facility. Our goal is to provide a cohesive, combined arts program in a creative and non-competitive environment. In order to reach this goal, our teaching staff consists of professional artist/educators of the highest quality in theatre, music, dance, and the visual and literary arts. Recognizing the importance of a multi-cultural arts education, our curriculum is theme-based in order to explore the art of countries around the world. Designed are both challenging and fun.
Today we welcome family, friends and educators of students form Mother Caroline Academy and Immaculate Conception School to the third presentation of the Lively Arts Program. We would like to extend a special welcome to Ron Adams, Peggy Settig, and students from the Broad Meadows Middle School, whose compelling presentation inspired today's demonstration.
ABOUT WEAVING A DREAM
Who made your shirt?
When Students from the Broad Meadows Middle School spoke with us at the beginning of the 1997 Lively Arts Program, this question threw me. Child labor was "something you saw on the evening news" or "something that happened in underdeveloped countries." My t-shirt said Made in the USA, but as to who make it, I had no idea. Tough question.
Iqbal Masih made rugs. Using a tool called a punjah, he wove rugs by hand. The owners of the factory where he worked said the rugs were being bought in America. Iqbal didn't;t like Americans. He didn't like his job, but if his work was poor, his overseers would hurt him. They would hit him with his tool, hang him upside down, or stick his fingers in hot oil. He was four-years old.
The young women form Mother Caroline Academy and the Immaculate Conception School never met Iqbal. They have never been chained to a carpet loom for days on end. They have not fought against their own slavery. Yet, in a small way, they have shared Iqbal's message of hope, perseverance and excellence. They share that message with you today.
Art, music, dance, painting, singing, drama: these are the tools offered to the students. They have crafted a story and they will demonstrate their hard work for you today. These tools are theirs to keep and to use again. Their work is now our to share. we know who made this art.
I'd like to thank Regis College for making all of this possible. Thanks to Mary Murphy for her expert administration, to Wendy Lement for her guidance and trust, and the Regis College assistants for their hard work. Thanks again to Ron Adams and Peggy Settig for the inspirational presentation by their students, and to the chaperons from Immaculate Conception and Mother Caroline Academy. To Mimi, Peter, and Naoe, thank you for your patience, tireless creativity, and laughter.
