On Wednesday, December 15, 1999, and on Wednesday, December 22, 1999, the Massachusetts Corporation for Educational Telecommunications (MCET) is broadcasting live, a two part mini-documentary on this child labor campaign. Student leaders Amanda Loos and Elizabeth Bloomer will co-host the shows. The program is called "The Global Sweatshop:"
  • Part 1: December 15, 1999 2:00pm- 2:40pm EST
    Focuses on the definition of child labor according to UNICEF and Dr. David Parker; education; the "School for Iqbal"; legislation; and micro-credit loans.
  • Part 2: December 22, 1999 2:00pm to 2:40pm
    Features interviews with U.S. Senators Tom Harkin and Ted Kennedy; a feature on the athlete's role; a child-labor-free shopping trip activity; and tips for effective student-run campaigns.

No Minor Concern: Children's Rights at Home and Abroad

On Saturday, December 4, 1999, 9am - 4:30pm, Amnesty International will be observing No Minor Concern: Children's Rights at Home and Abroad in celebration of the 10th Anniversary of "The Rights Of The Child" at the Boston Public Library in Copley Square in Boston, MA.

The afternoon session will begin with a tribute to Iqbal Masih.

The day will end with a challenge to shop "with a conscience" (child-labor-free) this holiday season!
